1672A - Iceland, Reykjavik, Thingvellir.

Let's go more than 1000 years back in time. Meetings were held here for centuries from the year 930 on until 1798. The yearly outdoor assembly or "thing" held on the plains of Thingvellir (Icelandic: Þingvellir) was followed by thousands of free people. Crowds of farmers and their families, people involved in legal disputes, merchants, craftsmen and story tellers, they all travelled from all over the country to Þingvellir. They lived there in temporary camps. The site was big enough and fresh drinking water was available for so many visitors. Þingvellir means "Thing Fields" or "Assembly Fields". The centre of the gathering was the Lögberg (Law Rock), but up till now it is not sure where exactly that rock was on the site.
